‘Oh Boy!’ CNN Host Stunned by Poll Result on Charlie Kirk Killing
CNN’s Michael Smerconish was surprised by the not-so-positive results of a poll question he posed to his audience on whether the killing of Charlie Kirk is the “beginning” or “end” of a dark chapter in U.S. history.
On Saturday, Smerconish showed the results from a poll he put out on social media. Nearly 40,000 voted in the survey by Saturday morning.
“Oh boy. On the Spencer Cox, the Governor Cox question, is this the end of a dark chapter in our history or the beginning of a darker chapter? At 92%. I’m sure, I hope, you all want to be wrong in saying, ‘Uh-oh, it’s just the beginning,’” Smerconish said.
According to the poll, 92% say the Kirk assassination is just the beginning, while 8% believe it is the end.
Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday at an event at Utah Valley University. The Turning Point USA founder was 31 years old. He he leaves behind a wife and two young children.
On Saturday, Smerconish offered some advice to his audience that was clearly not feeling optimistic about the future, telling them to get more directly involved in their communities.
He said:
What are you going to do about it? What are you gonna do about if that’s what you see for the country in light of the expertise that you heard on today’s program and over the span of the 12 years I’ve been here. You know what the answer is? Go volunteer. Go mentor someone. Go to church. Go to a synagogue. Go t0 a mosque. Go where you are among people. Get offline and rub shoulders, especially with those who are dissimilar from you. I could give you a laundry list of 50 ways to get it done. Go mingle.
