Six children, including infant, locked in Milwaukee storage unit: Police

Six children, including a 2-month-old infant, were discovered locked inside a storage unit in Milwaukee early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Milwaukee Police responded to a storage facility at approximately 1:36 a.m. after receiving reports of children trapped in a storage unit, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers found six children ranging in age from 2 months to 9 years old inside the unit. The other children were 2, 3, 5, and 7 years old, police said.

Police dispatch recordings obtained by ABC News revealed that authorities initially believed there were only two children inside the unit when they first arrived at the scene. Fire crews were called to assist with forced entry into the storage locker.

No injuries have been reported, according to officials.

A 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were taken into custody, according to police. Their charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

“I’m confused. I don’t even know how to respond to it,” a man from the area told ABC News affiliate WISN. “To me, this sounds like a cry for help, maybe they just needed help and didn’t know how to get it.”
