(WJTV) \u2013 Jackson police announced an 18-year-old was arrested in connection to the death of a recent Canton High School graduate during a trail ride event.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1112\" src=\"http:\/\/is.imsb.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Q3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/is.imsb.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Q3.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/is.imsb.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Q3-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/is.imsb.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Q3-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/is.imsb.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Q3-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/is.imsb.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Q3-600x600.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Investigators said Amarien Carmichael, 18, was arrested on June 15, 2026, and charged with murder and five counts of aggravated assault. He made his initial appearance in court on June 16, 2026, and received a $3.5 million bond.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the shooting occurred in the 2900 block of Forest Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on June 6, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>When officers arrived, they discovered that Joidan Worthy, 18, had been killed by a single gunshot wound. Five other people were injured.<\/p>\n<p>According to investigators, the shooting occurred during a trail ride event at Grants Field in Northwest Jackson, where a crowd had gathered. Witnesses reported there was a fight involving several unidentified males, which escalated to gunfire.<\/p>\n<p>WJTV 12 News spoke exclusively with Worthy\u2019s mother about her daughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe made you smile. She loved animals. She wanted to be a veterinarian. She was going to school to be a veterinarian. She\u2026 I just hate this situation happened to her,\u201d said Kursten Brent, Worthy\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the court on Tuesday, Carmichael\u2019s mother and grandmother apologized to Brent for the loss of her daughter, but they\u2019re still maintaining their loved one\u2019s innocence.<\/p>\n<p>The shooting remains under investigation, and more arrests are possible.
