<\/p>\nAn image of how Madeleine McCann might look now, if still alive, was released by her parents ahead of the second anniversary of her disappearance.<\/p>\n

Gerry and Kate McCann employed a forensic imaging artist, using computer technology, to produce a pH\u0e4f\u03c4ographic impression of how the missing youngster would have aged in the two years since she went missing.<\/p>\n
It will be used on posters to be distributed worldwide as part of the couple\u2019s continuing search for their little girl.<\/p>\n
Madeleine was just three years old when she vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3 2007.<\/p>\n
If still alive \u2013 and the McCanns believe there is a \u201cvery real likelihood\u201d she is \u2013 she would now be five, nearly six, years old.<\/p>\n
Unveiled on Oprah Winfrey\u2019s live chat show in the United States, the image depicts the child at six years of age.<\/p>\n
An expert at the United States National Center for Missing and Exploited Children used pH\u0e4f\u03c4ographs of Mr and Mrs McCann at around the same childhood age to produce the \u201cage progression image\u201d.<\/p>\n
The picture shows a smiling Madeleine, wearing a pink head-band in her fair shoulder-length hair.<\/p>\n
The couple believe it is the most realistic image possible of how she might look today, said their spokesman Clarence Mitchell.<\/p>\n
It is published on posters alongside an old pH\u0e4f\u03c4ograph of Madeleine, for comparison, under the headings \u201cHave You Seen This Little Girl?\u201d and \u201cDon\u2019t Give Up On Me\u201d.<\/p>\n
The distinctive mark in her right eye is evident in both pictures \u2013 but the age difference is compelling.<\/p>\n
Private detectives working for the McCanns and a H\u0e4f\u03c4line are now prepared to deal with responses generated by the posters.<\/p>\n
Mr Mitchell said: \u201cKate and Gerry are issuing this image with the aim of distributing it globally.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey feel it\u2019s important that as many people as possible see Madeleine as she now is, rather than the child of three seen in all of those early pH\u0e4f\u03c4ographs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the child that somebody who is close to Madeleine may spot, rather than the child in those other pH\u0e4f\u03c4os, and Kate and Gerry are incredibly hopeful that this will lead to the phone call that finds Madeleine and brings her home.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why they decided to release it on the Oprah Winfrey show, given the global reach she has.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was difficult for Kate to see the image at first, but over time she has got used to it and both Kate and Gerry believe it\u2019s the best image possible of what Madeleine may look like now.\u201d<\/p>\n
