Since the imposition of sweeping tariffs on steel, aluminum, and a growing list of Chinese components, Boeing\u2019s U.S. supply chain has experienced cost increases of nearly 18 percent over two years, according to industry data. Trump allies have pushed back fiercely. In a statement, a representative for the former president\u2019s political operation accused Boeing of \u201ccorporate disloyalty\u201d and called for federal contract reviews. \u201cAmerican taxpayers bailed out Boeing,\u201d the statement read. \u201cNow Boeing bails on America.\u201d<\/p>\n
But industry analysts note that Boeing received no direct bailout during the pandemic \u2014 only loan guarantees \u2014 and that the company\u2019s primary loyalty has always been to shareholders. Back in Everett, union leaders are preparing for a difficult fight. The International Association of Machinists has filed a grievance claiming the production move violates labor agreements.
