GOP Senator Calls it ‘Dangerous’ for Media to Allow Trump to Be Called ‘Hitler’ — Which JD Vance Once Called Him

Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) sounded off to Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo Sunday about the dangers of calling President Donald Trump “Hitler” — despite the fact that Vice President J.D. Vance has used those very words.

In 2016, Vance texted a friend, “I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he’s America’s Hitler. How’s that for discouraging?” The text came to light as Vance ran for an Ohio Senate seat in 2022.

Sunday, Britt blamed the left for using such incendiary rhetoric to foment the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

“The rhetoric that led us to this moment, calling President Trump a fascist, calling him Hitler. You had news organizations and mainstream media celebrating that and allowing those things to take place and be said on their networks. That is dangerous.”

Britt continued:

When you look at that, when you look at where we are, when you look at how we got here — Now people that are celebrating Charlie’s murder, celebrating a political assassination — that should never happen in the United States of America. And Maria, we must do more, we must stand firm, and we must have consequences with regards to people spewing that type of hate and celebration in the face of this. And I believe that there will be, and I certainly plan to hold them accountable. So, if you are out there, and you were celebrating the political assassination of a man who was exercising his free speech, a very foundational element, a cornerstone of who we are as the United States of America, you should be held accountable.

The call to tone down rhetoric hasn’t made an impression on the president, however, who continues to blame “radical left lunatics” for causing Kirk’s assassination.
